Veludo is a prime example of design that is sympathetic to its environment. Occupying a former car park next to the iconic Union Club Hotel, the development of the large, square corner site resulted in a central courtyard design providing access ways, plus natural light and ventilation to the dwellings. Along Gore Street the elevation references the brick Hotel in scale and materials and the rhythm of the Victorian terrace house streetscape, whilst the Charles St elevation takes a more robust expression, referencing the large-scale solid forms of the heritage industrial buildings typical of the precinct. Lightweight angled metal clad forms at upper levels taper sightlines, help to diminish in scale and cap the building.
